Canvass with Houston DSA to talk to our neighbors about voting YES on proposition A this November! Proposition A is an amendment to the city charter, and it will allow city council members to add items to the city council agenda. Currently, only the major has the power to add items to the agenda. In other words, control what city council votes on. To find out more please click HERE.
The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) is a regional council of local governments. It represents thirteen (13) counties in and around greater Houston, and distributes billions of dollars to our region.
H-GAC determines the funding and planning for our:
Transportation Infrastructure (sidewalks, roads, transit, and highways)
Flooding Prevention & Mitigation
Childcare
Workforce Development
But we are losing funding for our city. Houston is being silenced on H-GAC.
Houston and Harris County make up 62.6% of the population within H-GAC, yet the city and county only has 17.9% of H-GAC’s voting power. Houston’s representatives are unable to prioritize what is most important to our communities.
