#BoycottChevron
Week of Action
September 23 – 29, 2024
The week of September 23 – 29 will be a coordinated effort among hundreds of individuals and dozens of organizations across the world. Join Houston DSA in calling to #BoycottChevron so that Chevron knows it is NOT welcome in Houston.
The Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC), the largest Palestinian coalition that leads the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, has called for a global #BoycottChevron Week of Action to hold Chevron accountable for its complicity in “Israel’s” genocide in Gaza.
Houston DSA‘s Palestinian Liberation Working Group is answering the call by hosting a slate of actions targeting Chevron locally. Because Chevron is moving their headquarters to Houston, we have the opportunity and the responsibility to take a stand against Chevron.
Chevron is cashing in on genocide.
Chevron supplies “Israel’s” war machine with energy via the operation and co-ownership of the major gas fields off the coast of occupied Palestinian land. In 2022 alone, they made $1.5 billion from their illegal operations. Chevron’s business with “Israel” makes it a major partner in the illegal exploitation of Palestinian land and resources. Chevron provides 70% of “Israel’s” power, thereby fueling “Israel’s” war machine responsible for murdering thousands of Palestinians.
BDS Works.
Boycott and divestment campaigns are powerful because they communicate in the only language corporations understand: money. In the 1970’s and 80’s, boycott efforts – including boycotts of gas stations – were critical in ending the South African Apartheid government. More recently, organized actions by climate justice movements have seen over $40 trillion (with a T!) dollars withdrawn from the fossil fuel industry.
Chevron does not belong in Houston.
On August 2, Chevron proclaimed it will be moving its headquarters to Houston. That same day, Chevron quietly announced it approved an investment of $429 million expanding the Leviathan gas field – an illegal joint venture with “Israel” operating in occupied Palestine. Chevron has gotten away with atrocities around the world in places like Palestine, Ecuador, Myanmar and California for far too long.
Sign the #BoycottChevron pledge
Pledge to boycott Chevron gas stations and products (including affiliated Texaco and Caltex brands), sending a message to Chevron CEO Mike Wirth. The more people take action, the more we can push Chevron to cut its contracts with “Israel” and end its role in powering genocide.
