Houston DSA AV/Media Group – June

June 6 @ 7:00 pm 8:00 pm

Come one and all, members of Houston DSA as we venture into using media as an outreach to our community.
Please attend if you are interested in Journalism, podcasting, videomaking, television, Vlogs, music, editing, photography, or anything Audiovisual!
We want to build a team so we can produce shows, events, films series, news segments and more!
In this day and age, with the simplicity of technology, Houston needs to take advantage with these mediums to spread news and our vision to all.
We meet on the first Tuesday of the month, so don’t be a stranger.

June 2023 Hybrid General Meeting

June 8 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

Houston DSA’s monthly general meetings are where the membership comes together to be in community and discuss the activities going on within our own chapter and the national DSA. It is also where we conduct chapter business like elections, votes, or resolutions.

We will meet in person as well as online!  We are meeting at the Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation, 2506 Sutherland St. Houston, TX 77023. Following the facility’s regulations, you are encouraged to wear a mask while indoors.

We are working to make our meetings more accessible; after RSVPing, you can access a Google form for Carpool coordination, mutual aid support for gas, and accessibility needs.

If you prefer to join the meeting online, follow the instructions after RSVPing for Zoom registration.

General meetings are open to non-members and a great way to learn about the work we are doing! However, participation in certain activities like elections and votes is reserved for Houston DSA members only (via email ballot). You can visit dsausa.org/join to become a member today.

Sip In to Support Starbucks Workers Union!

February 3 @ 9:30 am 12:00 pm

Join Houston DSA on the Light Rail to support the Starbucks Workers forming a union at Cambridge and Fannin! This is the second Starbucks store in Houston to go public with their plans to unionize with Starbucks Workers United and we want to show our full support!

The Starbucks location at 6400 Fannin Street [map] is in the Medical Center, where parking is complicated and expensive, and the store is a pick up only location with no seating. To make this as easy as possible, we will be riding in together on the light rail from the Moody Park light rail stop at 3725 Fultondeparting at 9am to arrive at 9:30am. Light rail fare is $1.25 and is good for 3 hours. (You are welcome to get to the store from another location, just try to arrive at 9:30am)

Guidelines for the sip-in:

  • Wear your best union drip!
  • Order drinks (preferably simple ones) inside the store.
  • Use the name “UNION STRONG” or “UNION YES” for your order
  • Tip well! (with cash or card)
  • Congratulate the staff of their efforts to organize!
  • Post your support online with with #UnionStrong and @SBWU_Houston

Solidarity Forever!
