This is a political education event hosted by the Houston DSA Afrosocialist Caucus. We’ll take a look at a chapter from out of Black Reconstruction, a book written by the well-known socialist, W.E.B. Du Bois. The chapter covers how the writers of history at the time sought to use it as a political tool and promote propaganda rather than record an accurate representation of what actually was happening. We’ll compare this to how American history is taught in classrooms today, especially in light of the recent drive by the right to ban discussion around racism, white supremacy, and oppression in schools.
