Houston DSA x AFROSOC – The Slave Strike Theory
March 7 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Houston DSA and AFROSOC is hosting a political education event on WEB Du Bois’s theory on The Slave General Strike!
In Chapter 4 of Black Reconstruction in America, Du Bois argues that without the slave strikes throughout the Civil War, the North would have never won. As we prepare for May Day 2026, the General Strike for 2028, and the humanitarian crisis in Iran and Palestine, it’s crucial we take a step back to look at what history teaches us about the power of taking collective action. We will analyze excerpts from Chapter 4 of Black Reconstruction and discuss how we can take the struggles of the past into our future organizing efforts. If you are a member of DSA, it is highly encouraged to read the full chapter before coming to the discussion. A free PDF, along with the Zoom link for those joining remotely, will be provided in the RSVP. If you are joining us in person a light breakfast will be provided! Hope to see you there!
