Houston DSA Film Series

ENCLAVE – a film by Bocafloja

July 1, 2023 @ 5:30 pm 7:30 pm

Houston DSA begins it’s new Film Series, promoting pieces of art that show the struggles of the working class and the ways to surpass them.

For our first film, we present Enclave, a film by Bocafloja.

Enclave is a visual cartography of the ocean and its preservation. A documentary that explores the historical and geopolitical factors involved in the extensive extraction of natural resources and its impact in social life. A critical dialogue on environmental racism through narratives in first person, music, orality, dance and storytelling. A portrait of Latin America’s complexity in regards history, economy, identity and culture.

Filmed in Panama, Enclave becomes one of the few film projects who center the experience and contributions of racialized communities within a typically white controlled dialogue. Here is the trailer to his latest video.

If you don’t know, Bocafloja is a renowned hip-hop artist, poet and intellectual that has been working in cultural spaces for over three decades and centering Indigenous, Black & Brown voices. He shares opportunities to learn from his incredible body of work and life experience.
