Mayor Whitmire admits what we all know. The City of Houston is cooperating with ICE. Council Members must take action. Proposed legislation from former Council Member Letitia Plummer to give HPD discretion on whether to call ICE at traffic stops gained a single co-sponsor, falling short of the two that she needed to introduce it. Meanwhile, other Council Members have proposed no other action.

For months Houston Leads and our Houston DSA Immigrant Justice Campaign have been informing people about HPD collaboration with ICE, talking to affected communities, and building public pressure to make City Council defend immigrants. On Tuesday, January 26th, we are mobilizing to City Council’s evening public meetings at 5:00pm to make the voices of immigrants and our demands clear. City Council must limit collaboration, end HPD calling ICE at traffic stops, and fund the Houston Immigrant Legal Service Collaborative.
