Reading Group Teach-In: Prophetic City, by Stephen Klineberg

April 14, 2021 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

Join the Houston DSA Political Education Working Group Monday, March 29 at 7pm for our biweekly Reading Group! We’re having a teach-in on Stephen Klineberg’s Prophetic City.

Sociologist Stephen Klineberg presents fascinating and groundbreaking research that shows how the city of Houston has emerged as a microcosm for America’s future—based on an unprecedented thirty-eight-year study of its changing economic, demographic, and cultural landscapes

Klineberg is the founding director of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research, a multi-disciplinary “think-and-do tank” housed on the Rice University campus in central Houston, working to advance understanding of the most important issues facing Houston and other leading urban centers. This timely and groundbreaking book tracks the progress of an American city like never before. Houston is at the center of the rapid changes that have redefined the nature of American society itself in the new century. Houston is where, for better or worse, we can see the American future emerging.

As always, these readings are not necessary to attend, but is to provide context for those who wish to dig deeper.

The Houston DSA Reading Group is open to members and non-members alike. We strive to be accessible to all attendees regardless of background knowledge or expertise. Notes and a presentation on the articles will be provided, so you can follow along even if you don’t finish. See you there!
