Reading Group: Ecosocialist Teach-In

August 17, 2020 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

To attend this reading group, you must RSVP to the Zoom call by clicking here and following the instructions.

Join us Monday, August 17 from 7-9PM for a teach-in on Ecosocialism. The capitalist system is driven at its core by the maximization of profit, regardless of social and ecological costs. It is incompatible with a just and sustainable future. Ecosocialism offers a radical alternative that puts social and ecological well-being first. Attuned to the links between the exploitation of labor and the exploitation of the environment, ecosocialism stands against both reformist “market ecology” and “productivist socialism.”

But what does “eco-socialism” actually mean? How should we approach the relationship between humans and Nature? What does an ecologically conscious socialist program look like? Finally, how do things like the Green New Deal (GND) fit into this paradigm? In this session, we will discuss problems with popular conceptions of “ecosocialism,” and what an internationalist program that centers the working class should look like.

The Houston DSA Reading Group is open to members and non-members alike and aims to be accessible to all attendees regardless of background knowledge or expertise. We hope to see you there!
