The Labor Working Group is meeting on Wednesday, April 20, at 7 pm, via Zoom, to plan our next steps. We are preparing for our upcoming Labor Talk event with author/organizer Daisy Pitkin and a labor formation effort with other DSA chapters in Texas. Join us!
We are heartened by the victories we have seen for workers across the country- Nabisco and John Deere strikes, several Starbucks stores voting to unionize- and want to assess our membership’s union status and the labor landscape of the Houston area. We build working class power together!
In February, the workers of USW 13-243 voted in favor of a new contract with Exxon Mobil. The union didn’t win all of the concessions it sought, but still remains standing. USW will still pursue its unfair labor practices complaint against Exxon for starting the lockout back in May 2021.
We’d like to thank everyone who fundraised, made signs, walked the picket line, or otherwise supported USW over the past months. The solidarity we can offer, both materially and morally, does matter, and definitely had a positive impact on the situation. Let’s keeping fighting and Solidarity Forever!
