Houston DSA’s Labor Working Group is holding an interest meeting on Tuesday, November 23 at 6 pm. RSVP for our Zoom registration link!
All around the country, worker power is on the rise as #Striketober gives way to #Strikesgiving gives way to workers controlling their futures and wielding power!
Houston DSA members overwhelmingly approved a resolution in support of USW Local 13-243. We’ve gone to Beaumont to stand in solidarity on the picket line, supporting the steelworkers who have been locked out by Exxonmobil since May in an effort to break worker power. More picket line trips are scheduled (see houstondsa.org/calendar) and we are looking to next steps to support USW:
–Fundraising/donations to help support 650 workers and families going into holiday season approaches?
-Planned protest in Houston area the week of Dec. 6 (details forthcoming)
-Calling attention to Texas Climate Jobs Project support for USW Local and pressuring Harris County elected officials to NOT reward Exxon with tax incentives/special treatment
We are also seeing the steps taken by Kroger workers in Houston, members of United Food & Commercial Workers, who just voted to reject the company’s proposal and to authorize a strike. We are watching closely what UFCW will do, and want to be ready to respond to this developing situation.
What other work can we be doing as a chapter to support the labor movement in our community? This is YOUR chance to push the direction of the chapter and be part of an effort to organize and build worker power in our community. Join us!
