We are hosting a holiday fundraiser for the USW Local 13-243 at Bohemeo’s, 708 Telephone Rd., Houston, Texas, 77023, on Sunday, December 12, from 12 pm to 4 pm.
About 650 workers in Beaumont, Texas, reported for work and were turned away by ExxonMobil on May 1, 2021, when the company’s unfair labor practice lockout began.
The company has insisted on concessions in bargaining that will undermine safety, job security, and seniority rights and place the community at risk to accomplish these goals. Although they are on the front lines fighting for a fair contract, in this fight against corporate greed, they need our support now more than ever. The company has cut off their paychecks, but let’s show ExxonMobil that they can never cut off the solidarity and support of the labor movement in Texas.
The fundraiser will have live music – The Free Radicals, Deconstruction Crew, Patrick Squires, James Magown and our own Carlos/Carlos/Bennett/Chris – on the Bohemeo’s patio. We will have a fun raffle of donated items- clothing, plants, books, etc.- it doesn’t need to be new, but in good condition. Bring items that you would be happy to receive as a surprise! We will give attendees numbers which will randomly match to items during the raffle.
We will accept cash at the door handled by Houston YALL OR proof of donation to the DFW YALL Action Network gift fund. We do not have a minimum donation; but please give what is appropriate for your income level. Tips will also be accepted by the musicians for donating their time & talent to this good cause.
This event is being held by Houston DSA in partnership with USW, Houston YALL, & DFW YALL.
