The Ecosocialist and Labor Working Groups of Houston DSA and the Texas Climate Jobs Project are inviting chapter members, coalition partners, and community stakeholders to a follow-up meeting about the Carbon Free and Healthy Schools campaign.
The CFHS campaign vision is to support a healthier ecosystem for Texas students, educators, and the communities in which they live as well as a robust and equitable economy that includes access and training for careers in family-sustaining occupations that mitigate the harmful effects of climate change. The campaign seeks to work with school districts in their efforts to decarbonize schools, lower utility bills, and create healthier environments for all.
We will discuss the campaign piece of collecting personal experiences and stories to learn what a “Carbon-Free, Healthy School” would mean to folks- students, parents, teachers, workers. We will also look ahead to organize a meeting (hopefully, in-person) for partners and stakeholders to participate in and (1) collectively develop a strategy that works best for Houston- HISD and (2) review the campaign demands to ensure that everyone is represented.
The Texas Climate Jobs Project is a project of Fair Shot Texas and Fair Shot Action Fund in partnership with the Texas AFL-CIO. Our climate is breaking down, and it hurts every working person. Through the Texas Climate Jobs Project, labor unions are helping lead on climate change. The TCJP plan works to solve the climate crisis and to create jobs that benefit workers and their communities. We’re building a better future for us, our families, and all of Texas. Learn more at https://www.txclimatejobs.org/reports
