2023 Chapter Convention Planning Meeting

January 5, 2023 @ 7:00 pm 8:15 pm

It is time to plan for the 2023 Houston DSA Chapter Convention! We are having our first planning meeting of the year on Thursday, January 5 at 7 pm via Zoom.

What will happen at the Chapter Convention in 2 months? Members will engage in a day of efforts to

(1) evaluate our chapter’s work in 2022;

(2) facilitate political and strategic deliberation over the direction of the chapter in 2023; and

(3) help to flesh out newly formed chapter infrastructure created through newly revised Bylaws.

The Chapter Convention will be held on Saturday, March 11, 10 am to 5 pm, at the Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation Hall, 2506 Sutherland St, Houston, TX 77023.

Members can fill out this form to express which ad-hoc Convention Committees they would like to help with in making the Chapter Convention a success- you can choose more than one if you like!

The four Committees will be:

Overview and Rules- to set the schedule for the Convention, review submitted Priority Resolutions and Bylaws proposals, identify the roles of Convention Chair- Parliamentarian, establish voting processes, and draft proposed Convention Rules for use on the day of the Convention.

Resolution/Bylaws Writing Support- to assist Working Groups and interested members with writing Priority Resolutions and Bylaws Changes, via Zoom calls and in-person gatherings in January and February. [see our current Bylaws here]

Assessments and Perspectives- to prep and facilitate breakout sessions/report-backs at the January/February General Meetings and additional Political Education or Red Square events as needed. There are 4 sessions, planned to begin at the January 12 General Meeting and concluding with the February 9 General Meeting.

Logistics- to focus on Accessibility needs, Carpool facilitation, ordering/setting up Food and Drinks for Chapter Convention, and Publicity/Outreach.
